Greetings, Westfield Band Members and Parents/Guardians!
It is May 1st! We have made it to the final month of school! This is a reminder that the last day of school is Friday, May 31st, so we have a solid month of events and pending items, such as band fees, to close out the school year.
The band social at Collins Park yesterday was a success. All the kids enjoyed their time, and we thank everyone who supported the event with their food donations.
We have a Band Banquet on Tuesday, May 7th, at Randall Reed Center at Planet Ford Stadium in Spring ISD. The event will begin at 6 pm, and we will shut down the party at 9 pm. We encourage everyone to attend at $20 per entry. It is a moment to dress up nicely and celebrate the year with good food, awards and recognitions, and a little dancing.
On Thursday, May 9th, beginning at 3 pm at the Westfield Band Hall, every single instrumentalist (wind player and percussionist) must perform a solo for our Solo and Ensemble Festival. We will have judges, and YOU are welcome to attend your member’s performance!
Band members interested in a leadership role, such as section leader or drum major, will have coaching and sessions in preparation for auditions. Please see the band calendar; candidates should know the dates/times.
There must be enjoyable experiences as a part of being in the band program. We have been back and forth with a band trip or event for the end of the year. Due to costs, we have selected Thursday, May 16th, as ‘Westfield Band Night Out’ at the Main Event in Shenandoah (North of Westfield HS off Highway 45). Each band member interested in the event must pay an entry fee of $20 for all-inclusive pizza, drinks, and all-access to all paying activities such as bowling, pool, games, etc. The event will be from 4-7 pm.
SENIORS! We are planning our ‘Westfield Band Senior Night Out’ for Tuesday, May 28th! Stay tuned for more details.
On Thursday, May 16th, please take care of Physical Exams at the Westfield HS Main Gym from 9 am to 4 pm. The cost is $20, which covers the required Physical for ALL UIL activities such as band, dance, and athletics.
The school year concludes with the Percussion Concert on Tuesday, May 21st, and the Westfield Band Cluster Concert on Thursday, May 23rd. Both events will begin at 6:30 pm. The percussion concert will be in the big band hall and the Mega Band concert in the Main Gym.
Band Camp and Registration for the upcoming school year will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, May 29th and 30th, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm in the Westfield big band hall. Please attend, register, and prepare/plan for the Fall 2024 Marching Season!
IMPORTANT!!! We must close the school year with every member in good standing with their band fees. We must have everyone at 100% paid for the past fees as we close the school year on May 31st. At band registration, the Booster Club will work out a payment plan with every member and their household as needed; this would be for the new upcoming marching season. Again, past due fees must be completed by May 31st for seniors to graduate and members not graduating, whether they continue with the band program or not.
Lastly, graduation for Westfield HS is on Saturday, June 1st, at 7:30 pm at Planet Ford Stadium. Our band program is responsible for water sales, and we will need volunteers, both members and adults. Please consider volunteering as seniors and their households cannot help us. Volunteer sign-up will come closer to the event date.
As always, the band calendar is on our website, which has all the information up to date; please visit westfieldbrb.org and find the calendar section. Feel free to contact a band director as well; information is on the director section of the website.
The band calendar is up to date with everything, including rehearsals, football games, and contests, through the first day of school AFTER the winter break. Please plan accordingly, as attendance is essential.
